Staying Safer

Isn't South Africa dangerous?
Lets put it this way, the UK is dangerous, America is dangerous and so are countless other countries around the world and yet thousands of tourists visit them every year without consequence.

It just takes a little common sense.

  • Travel in groups if possible and avoid travelling at night.
  • Do not accept food or drink from strangers. Do not get into vehicles.
  • Don’t travel with valuables on you, including jewellery.
  • Use a hidden money belt to contain money, passport etc.
  • Be careful when taking out money at ATMs (take friends with you)
  • Females should dress respectfully/ conservatively.
  • Muggings do happen, to reduce this danger, you can keep a little small change in a pocket and if you are mugged do not resist, hand over the cash you have in your pocket.
  • If you are lost on foot, resist looking at your map/ guide book until in a safe place such as a cafĂ© or bank etc. If asking for directions it is best to approach a female, older couple or uniformed guards.
  • Most of all use common sense and think about what you are doing.
